As a professional translation company, we at Kocarek GmbH are always seeking to improve. We therefore work in accordance with the international quality management standard ISO 9001 – the standard for top performance. Quality is our top priority, and defines our thinking and activities.
ISO 9001 describes the requirements that the management system of a company must fulfil in order to meet a certain standard in the implementation of a quality management system. The application of a quality management system can serve to make information available for the implementation of processes within a company, and may represent evidence of certain standards for third parties. This evidence is confirmed by means of a certification process, and is always restricted to a certain time period. A company is only able to obtain the certificate from an authorised certification body.
In general, the purpose of ISO 9001 is to simplify mutual understanding on a national and international level. It is not dependent on a single product, but is oriented towards the internal processes that enable a company to deliver products or services that fulfil customer expectations and the requirements of public authorities. If a company wishes to be successful, it must be systematically and clearly steered by management. One path to success may for example be the introduction and maintenance of a management system that defines continuous performance and quality improvement.
ISO 9001 is now one of the most widely accepted standards for quality management worldwide. By the end of 2009, over a million companies in over 170 countries were certified, around 51,000 of them in Germany. ISO 9001 primarily serves to promote a continuous improvement process in the company. It forms the basis for the continuous improvement process of the in-house quality management system. With the aid of ISO 9001, it is therefore possible to increase the transparency of company processes, achieve higher customer satisfaction, and reduce the error rate and associated costs. Successful process management includes amongst other things the definition of appropriate and comprehensible processes, and the effective implementation and control of these. This also includes the availability of resources and information, and ensuring the control of outsourced processes.
A quality management system defines structured and straightforward processes and responsibilities, and thus forms an important element – individually tailored to the company – for achieving integrated modern management. The clearly defined responsibilities and transparent processes help the employees to perform their work better. The quality management system ensures that the numerous interconnected activities are identified, managed and controlled. The tasks of each individual employee are described in detail, and they are fully responsible for their work. If a mistake nevertheless occurs in the process chain, there are precise instructions available for how this should be rectified, and avoided in future.
ISO 9001 requires the introduction of a quality management system, which not only means that the requirements of the standard are fulfilled, but also and particularly that strategic decisions of the company management are defined by this, and that these are made a reality and actually practised. This is based on ten principles:
1. Scope |
2. Normative references |
3. Terms and definitions |
4. Context of the organization |
5. Leadership |
6. Planning |
7. Support |
8. Operations |
9. Perfomance evaluation |
10. Improvement |
Long-term success is created through targeted management and control on the basis of a management system that is primarily oriented towards the needs of the customer. It is enormously important to identify and name tasks and processes in their interdependencies. This ensures that transparency is maintained within the company, that opportunities for improvement are identified and utilised, and that the intention exists to maintain clear and rational processes. In order to ensure that all employees have access to the relevant information at all times, the company is obliged to create a quality management manual. This manual defines how the company is structured, and what areas and locations of the company it applies to.
